Independent Archers Association

Since 2017

About the IAA

An association created by archers, for archers.

The IAA is a 3D archery association created in 2017 with the format, rules and classes archers were looking for. Archers contribute their thoughts and ideas, helping make the IAA an association where the archer truly comes first.

Our events are held in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania, with 200+ participants turning out per club. We offer high payouts for leading archers, participation for all ages, great door prizes and low registration fees.

Jason Birchmeier

I have competed in archery since the age of 12 with my father leading me, teaching me, and kicking my butt along the way. Archery has brought out the best in me and helped mold me into the man I am today. Second place isn't an option in my book; you work hard for things you want in life and you take every loss as a way to learn and grow. I strive to be the best and I want the best out of Michigan Archery.

I'd also like to mention the woman that has been in my corner, pushing me to live out my big dreams with the I.A.A. and archery in general, my loving wife Jen Birchmeier. Jen will be working with us behind the scenes in helping the association reach new heights.

We're looking forward to this upcoming season and the friendships it brings! Please feel free to reach out and say hello, voice your wants and needs, and let us know what you would like to see in upcoming events.

Jason Birchmeier and I acquired the I.A.A. in 2024. We both want to thank C.R. LaFata for creating the I.A.A. and growing it to what it's become. We're hopeful to live up to the name that C.R. has built. The I.A.A. brought 3D archery back to life when it seemed it was lost in Michigan and we're proud to continue to nurture that on C.R.'s behalf.

Together, Jason and I have over 30 years of competitive archery experience, with a passion for the sport that is unquenchable. We intend to maintain the I.A.A.'s current schedules and hopefully grow the brand. We both have many ideas and will also lean on the archers to provide input.

I am excited to share that I will be joining my friends Jason Birchmeier and Rocky Cummins as part of the ownership team of the IAA. Since Jason and Rocky acquired the IAA in 2024, I have worked closely with them to help develop score-tracking systems, shooter IDs, and new initiatives aimed at strengthening and modernizing the organization.

As an owner, my goal is to help continue moving the IAA forward by applying my education and business management experience to drive meaningful improvements. By evaluating data and listening to archer feedback, I hope to support sustainable growth and enhance the overall experience for our members and competitors.

Archery has been a passion of mine since the age of 12, when I received my first Darton bow and promptly air-mailed an arrow over a doe in Baldwin, Michigan. That moment sparked a lifelong obsession with hunting, which has since taken me across multiple states. From ages 14–18, I competed in MYHEC challenges, and more recently became involved in competitive archery to further refine my skills behind the bow.

I'm looking forward to the upcoming seasons and the launch of our new trail series. I hope to see you on the range, and I am always available for any questions, ideas, or concerns.
